Here’s a quick integer operations manipulative how-to with 3 examples. (Full video at link in comments.) The manipulative works with absolute value when adding integers with opposite signs, which was a big struggle for my students, so much so that I wrote my thesis on negative numbers and developed this manipulative as part of it.
