Everybody has an accent. Nobody actually speaks the “standard”. What everybody thinks is standard turns out to be the accent of where they’re from. Research linguists have shown this by providing people with blank maps and asking them to label the dialect regions in the map. Inevitably people will have one area they label “standard” or “normal” etc. and wouldn’t you know, it’s where they happen to be from.
